Cannon Hill Park

Birmingham’s most beautiful green space!

If you’re out of ideas for how to entertain the kids, visitors or friends and family, Cannon Hill Park has the ideal day out for you.

Cannon Hill Park is just a couple of miles outside Birmingham’s city centre, and has an amazing range of activities, facilities and natural features to explore.

Cannon Hill's history

Originally donated to the citizens of Birmingham by Louisa Ryland, Cannon Hill Park was opened to visitors in 1873, and was designed by TJ Gibson, who also designed Battersea Park in London.

Louisa Ryland hoped the park would help the people of Birmingham enjoy their recreation and keep healthy, a legacy that is still going strong.

The park itself includes 80 acres of formal parks, as well as 120 acres of conservation and woodland. It’s a brilliant place to enjoy a walk, run or cycle, or just to sit and relax. There’s also a natural amphitheatre with a beautiful listed Bandstand at its centre.

Picnicking is a popular pastime here every time the sun comes out, and of course even when the weather’s not fantastic you’ll still come across plenty of joggers and dog walkers who regularly use the park.

How Do I Get To Cannon Hill Park?

Places to play

When you want a place to come and entertain the kids, get them active and outdoors for free, our brilliant play areas are the first place to come.

There are two play areas, one by the MAC and the other by the Pershore Road car park, and they’re fully equipped with slides, swings and all you’d expect from a children’s outdoor play area.

Cannon Hill Park has been awarded Green Flag status for the last 10 years as one of the best green spaces in the UK, and has been particularly praised for its helpful staff and facilities for those with mobility issues.
